East Rise Supply Chain Policy for Sourcing of Minerals
The policy of East Rise Ltd. (East Rise) is to exclude the purchase of any minerals that could potentially have provided some benefit to non-government armed groups. It is the intent of East Rise to use the best available methods for documenting the integrity of its supply, and the avoidance of any purchase were the supply could be alleged to have originated from conflict affected or ‘high risk’ areas.
Business dealings and commercial relationships
East Rise will include contractual language, and certification methods to ensure that only minerals that are:
- Purchased where the extraction of minerals is from a known site that can be documented as free from allegations of conflict.
- The transport can be certified through documentation that it does not benefit any conflict party through taxation or by other benefit.
- Minerals are extracted from sites where there is now non-government security or there are openly available contracts for private security forces and said security forces operate in accordance with a policy that requires adequate protection of Human Rights for potentially affected people.
- Minerals are extracted and fees and taxation are paid in accordance with the principles and criteria set forth under the Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (EITI).
East Rise will use the best available risk management program to ensure the above remains in compliance and will:
Immediately suspend or discontinue engagement with upstream suppliers where we identify a reasonable risk that they are sourcing from, or linked to, any party providing direct or indirect support to non-state armed groups
East Rise will:
- Enter into a review process for any other indiscretions that could result in termination of the commercial relationship.
Internal controls
East Rise commitment to the above policy includes:
Hire and maintain a Chief Compliance Officer with who will be assigned the responsibility for this policy.
- Provide the officer and the company with the necessary resources to support the best available method of assuring the policy is kept in compliance and is properly monitored.
- Put in place and will maintain a company structure that communicates company objectives on supply chain integrity throughout the company and to East Rise suppliers.
East Rise will:
- Not tolerate variance from the policy and will discipline employees who fail to maintain the policy including with termination.
